New Zealand Beaches

August 19, 2017 Anne Kemp Buttar
One of the many perks of living in New Zealand.

One of the many perks of living in New Zealand.

When I moved to Wellington 3 years ago, I knew I was going to love it here because this cool little city is surrounded by water. Weekends mean that we head to the beach with the dogs to make sure they get their exercise and we get some quiet time on what are usually empty beaches. Seriously - empty.

This concept is still foreign to me considering no matter what time of day or night I was out on the beach in Santa Monica or around the LA area, you always saw at least one person. sure, summertime it can be a bit busier, depending on where you are - the cities and popular destinations get somewhat crowded, but I've not seen it as overwhelming.

Growing up in Maryland, we'd spend summers either going to Assateague Island, where the wild horses are, so we could go to the beach or to Ocean City. OC was fun, but I mostly dug it for the food - heck nothing's really changed much then. Even writing "Ocean City" makes me think of Thrasher's french fries and Dolle's Candyland.

What summer memories do you have from childhood - a favorite beach, summer snack or maybe a song? Share in the comments!
